growning up

finally got some down time to catch up. Well Toby's 5th birthday has come and gone. All the kids, including the adults had a blast. There was one kid that we didn't know who he was and Toby didn't know who he was either. That's ok though, Toby was having too much fun to care. A blast all the way around!
Also got Toby in i9 basketball again. He loves that sport. I'm bummed that I can't coach his team this time around because of the holiday season at work.  That's ok, I got more sports to do when he gets bigger. Just gotta get him some muscles so that when he shoots he can reach the rim. That's ok though...he can dribble better than the rest of the kids. They call him the dribbling machine!
As far as school goes, Toby is doing well. He gets a lot of positive comments from his teacher, Mrs. Hee. She says that he consistently say's his please & thank you's, very polite and a good listener.  I'm very proud of him for that.  Well till next time....

Growing up...

For the past few days Toby has been excited about turning 5.  He's been talking about his birthday party for several months now but his birthday party isn't till another month from now.  What is it about turning 5 that kids are excited about? Anyhow for the past week there has been some significant growth on his part.  His behavior has been stellar. Not much whining/crying on his part, very helpful, listening well, understands that he needs to do homework BEFORE playing.  WOW my boy is growing up.  I just wish his body size gets bigger and taller.  Oh well that's ok cause I grew during intermediate thru high school.  When Toby reads this when he gets older I hope he knows that his daddy is very proud of him. I love you Tobias....

At dinner time....

Well I'm very proud father this evening.  At dinner Toby said that we were lucky.  I was a little caught off guard by him saying this so I asked him, "what do you mean by lucky?" Toby replied by saying, "We're lucky because we have food, a place to live, clothes, tv, toys..." I was saying to myself WOW he's only 4 yrs old and he's starting to understand how grateful we should be.  I just hope that as he gets older that he remembers how grateful we should be.  I also asked him, "if we're so lucky what do you do about it?" Toby then answered that he can give up some of his toy's to kids that don't have much and that he wants to go and buy food for those that don't have food. I'm very proud of him for saying that and that I need to react on this so that he knows that I listen to him and that we should do something about it.

Sunday Aug 29, 2010 Game Day & Pool Day at the Lau's

First off I'm finally starting a diary for Toby who is 4 yrs old.  I've meant to start this a while ago and actually have a few things I want to do as well. Like set him up with a gmail account and still thinking about a facebook account that only Emily & I have access to.  Well today was game day for him and his "Magic" teammates: Ikaika, Ronson, Xavier, Kaylee, Kaylee.  I must say that they did an incredible job! They were passing and dribbling the ball! There was one point in the game that a kid on the other team tried took Toby down on the ground and tried to grab the ball from him. Toby didn't like that at all. He was upset at the kid and even punched the other kid in the chest.  Toby was really upset that he started crying, so I took him out of the game so that he could mellow out.  Toby didn't want to go back for the rest of the game and wanted to just sit down on the side.  I really felt bad for him cause I've been teaching the kids the basics of the game and told them in practice that for now we do not steal the ball from the other kids. Just play defense by moving your feet, keeping your hands up and get the rebound.  The other kids on his team tried to cheer him up and it worked for a little while.  When I tried to put him back into the game he refused and just wanted to be on the sidelines.  The game overall was great. Too bad Toby was bummed for the rest of the game.  After the game he seemed to brighten up a little and played with his teammates outside but when we left he was quiet inside the car ride home.  It seemed to cheer him up when I told him that we were going to Uncle Cleighton & Aunty Jackies house to go swimming.  When we got there the kids had a blast! I was working on their computer while Toby and Naomi were in the pool.  When I was done with the computers I jumped in the pool with Toby and he was able to hold his breath under water and swim! Boy was I excited! And so was he! Toby just wanted to stay in the water and keep swimming even though he was cold.  I forgot to mention that Naomi pooped in the pool but nothing came out of her swimming trunks.  All her poop stayed in!  Well we finally got out of the pool and had dinner with the Lau's, Uncle Russ, Auntie Mona. What a way to end the day...
